The Garden of Dreaming Youths
May 20 - April 23, 2023
Opening reception; Saturday, May 20th, 6-9pm
15 Orient is delighted to announce the opening of “The Garden of Dreaming Youths”, a solo-exhibition by Ukrainian artist Sergey Kononov. The show represents Kononov’s first with the gallery and his first exhibition in the US.
Trained from an early age in the traditional methods of Ukrainian academic painting, Kononov inherits and problematizes a fund of technical expertise transmitted from the 19th century. Bringing this to bear on the depiction of contemporary subjects, he probes the social history embedded in the formal conventions of realist painting and its equivocal relationship to contemporary media, fashion, eroticism and youth culture.
Sergey Kononov (b. 1994, Odesa) lives and works between Odesa, UA and Paris, FR. In 2009, he began studying at the Art College of Odesa and in 2013, the Odesa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
